The Video Essay Podcast

"Just as [Jonas] Mekas’s early Voice columns helped promote avant-garde accomplishment, Will DiGravio’s video-essay podcasts are bringing increased attention to many video-essayists and their work."  - Scott MacDonald, The Edge

Since 2019, The Video Essay Podcast has featured interviews with scholars, critics, and filmmakers all of whom make "video essays" in one form or another. Past guests include: Kevin B. Lee, Catherine Grant, Chloé Galibert-Laîné, Broey Deschanel, Thomas Flight, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Bianca Stigter, Adrian Martin, and dozens more.

The podcast hosts the Black Lives Matter Video Essay Playlist (curated by Cydnii Wilde Harris, Lee, and myself), which was named the best video essay project of the year by Sight & Sound, and led to curated programs at film festivals and conferences.

As of 2024, the podcast has partnered with a number of institutions on episodes and initiatives, including the SNSF/Locarno Film Festival project "The Video Essay: Memories, Ecologies Bodies," the Cary Comes Home Festival, and Doing Women's (Global) (Horror) Film History.
